Alternative Project
The "TEAM" in STEAM
If you would like to do a technology, engineering, art, or math project or display, please sign up on the home page where it says "Click Here". The form will give you the option to sign up for an alternative project as well as a typical science fair project. Since this is a new idea this year, the guidelines are not as detailed for an alternative project. The goal for these projects is to gain a new understanding in one of these areas or to celebrate a collection of work that you have done. For example, if you are going to create an engineering project, the process would be very similar to creating a science fair project. The only difference would be that you are using the engineering design process instead of the scientific method. You can find information about the engineering design process on sciencebuddies.com. If you are planning to display a piece or collection of your art, it is much more open-ended at this point. You can simply display the pieces on a project board, or you can show an entire process from start to finish. If you are very interested in one of these disciplines, but not sure what to do, you can ask your teacher for advice or email me at [email protected] to make sure you are on the right track. Many classrooms are planning to create projects, so the teachers are an excellent resource. See below for some general guidelines.
General Guidelines
When creating your project in the above areas, you will need to do a few things.
1) Use a tri-fold project board (large or small)
2) Create a title
3) Write all names and room numbers on the presentation board
4) Give references if you used websites, books, or other sources to obtain information
5) Make it neat and clean so everyone can enjoy it
6) Have fun!
